Moms and dads, you’re going to love this! Here are the latest fashion trends for kids for this fall that will help you with back-to-school shopping, while getting fewer eye rolls in the process. These days many clothing trends trickle down from celebrities. And, yes, that includes those for children, too.

Here’s what to look out to for this fall

Skater and street-inspired styles

Fuelled by Sky Brown, the teenage skateboard superstar with over 30 million likes on TikTok, and the first ever cohort of skateboard athletes who crushed it while competing in the Tokyo Olympic games, this trend is all about baggier cargo pants, loads of pockets and moto-inspired patches.

If you’re not a skater yourself, don’t worry. You can still get in on the action with this trend by pairing your favourite cargo pants with a printed t-shirt, hoodie or bomber jacket. The look is all about layering, so you can even wear a chunky knit jumper underneath your jacket. If you want to add some extra edge to your skater style, try adding some cool sneakers with your outfit.

Joggers

With the comfort level of sweats, but dressed up a notch for school and weekend play dates, boys jogger jeans are the ones to watch. They’re roomier, have wider legs, are made from stretch denim, and feel cozy and comfortable with their elasticized waistbands and ankle cuffs. Create a kickass look with chunky-soled colourful sneakers.

Joggers are the new go-to pants for boys of all ages. With so many styles available, it’s easy to find the right pair for your little one.

Plus, they have the added benefit of being easy to pull on and off.

The Power of Tie-Dye

This summer’s love of psychedelic motifs continues for this fall, either in very intense jewel-print hues or softer pastels. The power of tie-dye is a classic summer motif that has been around for decades. From leisurewear to swimwear, the psychedelic print has always been popular with the younger generation. Now it’s back again and better than ever!

Expect to see the classic hippie print in everything from lunchbox gear to soft fleeces and masks. It’s clearly everybody’s new favourite print!

Vivid Colours

Moving on from tie-dye, bold colours are back. And that includes colour blocking too. It’s cheerful, uplifting, and we all need these, right now! Shop fun, saturated shades like vivid greens, blues, reds and oranges in everything from raincoats to backpacks to canvas high tops.

If you’re feeling a little more reserved, opt for subtle colour blocking. It’s still a bold look but with less impact than full on colour blocking. A great example of this is the classic black and white checkerboard effect that has been reinvented in everything from your favourite sweatshirt to backpacks and shoes!

Cozy, Textured Materials

While we’re seeing beautiful textures materialize in both the men’s and women’s outerwear clothing, the same is popping up in kidswear. The child’s desire for comfort is at the forefront of their outerwear, and this season that means soft, stretchy fabrics with an ultra-cozy feel. Think transitional jackets and hoodies in plush, fluffy finishes inspired by shearling and velvety fabrics which are ideal for layering or wearing alone for those cooler temperatures ahead. Comfy.

90s Nostalgia

Designed to appeal to parents who wore them some 20 years ago, but cool enough to magnetize kids with their retro vibe, preppy prints, oversize grunge shirts and low-rise pants are on the upswing for this fall. The preppy look is a great way to add some fun and flair to your wardrobe, but it can also be worn in a more conservative way. It’s all about how you accessorize it! You can pair preppy outfits with sneakers or lace-up boots, depending on the occasion. If you want something more formal, try pairing a button-up shirt with chinos or wool trousers.

Vintage Rock T-shirts

They’re all over TikTok and YouTube, and your tween is going to want one, too! The nostalgic vibe comes to life with concert T-shirts of mega bands from our teenage years. A true classic. With or without a mosh pit.

A vintage rock t-shirt is a great gift for a teen who loves music. If your tween has been asking for an old concert shirt, or has been eyeing one at their favorite store, this is a great way to get them something they’ll love!
